This is bug information for Update KB5034848 for Windows 11 version 23H2/22H2 distributed on WindowsUpdate on March 1, 2024.

Background Information

KB5034848 is a cumulative update called Preview build for Windows 11 version 23H2/22H2. This update will improve functionality and fix bugs. However, please note that this is just a preview version.

This update does not contain any new vulnerability fixes and there is no security issue if you do not install it.

  • The “Mobile Device” item has been added to “Settings” → “Bluetooth & Devices” (*Author’s Note: Renamed “Smartphone Tethering”)
  • You can now edit photos and screenshots on your Android device with Windows' Snipping Tool. You can have your computer display a notification when your Android device takes a new photo or screenshot. To turn on this feature, go to Settings → Bluetooth & Devices → Mobile Devices → Device Management and enable your computer to access your Android device.
  • Supports USB standard 80 Gbps
  • This update affects games installed on secondary drives. (*Author's Note: The original text reads “This update affects games you install on a secondary drive. Now, they remain installed on the drive.” Have you ever had a game installed on your device disappear?)
  • A printer-related bug has been fixed.Due to this issue, the positions of pins and holes were not reflected correctly.
  • Fixed an issue where the app would randomly become unresponsive when opening Settings
  • Fixed a bug where automatic switching from cellular (data connection) to Wi-Fi would fail.
  • Fixed an issue where the computer would not go into sleep mode when an external device was connected.

  • Fixed an issue where Notepad could not be opened via cmd.exe based on file association when using a standard user account.
  • Fixed an issue where Zip archives could not be opened by double-clicking in File Explorer.
  • A bug affecting the CrashOnAuditFail registry value has been fixed. Due to this bug, if this registry value is set to 1, only the administrator will be able to log in to the stopped device.
  • Fixed a bug where Azure Virtual Desktop virtual machines would restart randomly
  • A bug affecting devices used as remote desktop session hosts has been fixed. This issue caused a Blue Screen (BSoD) error with RDR_FILE_SYSTEM (0x27).
  • Fixed an issue where the UI of Internet Options data settings in Microsoft Edge was incorrect.
  • Fixed an issue where notifications were not displayed even after deleting an eSIM profile
  • Fixed a bug in Remote Desktop Web Authentication.Due to this bug, it was sometimes impossible to connect to the Sovereign Cloud endpoint.
  • Fixed a bug where troubleshooting failed
  • A bug affecting the Certification Authority snap-in has been fixed. Due to this bug, the Delta CRL option could not be selected

As of KB5034765 published February 14, 2024, updates may fail to install and cause the system to become unresponsive 96% of the time. You may see a message saying: “We were unable to complete as planned. Don't worry – we will undo your changes. Please leave your computer turned on.”

Alternatively, you can install it by deleting the hidden folder “C:\$WinREAgent” and restarting your computer. For information about how to view hidden folders, please see the article to the right.
