Why is there only one hydrogen filling station in Thuringia

In Thuringia, filling stations for hydrogen-powered cars are extremely rare. To be precise, there is only one hydrogen filling station in Bavaria – in Erfurt at Urbicher Kreuz in the southeast of the city.

This looks like it The principle of the hydrogen car As simple as it is ingenious: you take electricity and water, convert water into hydrogen and oxygen using electrolysis and stuff the hydrogen into a vehicle. There, the fuel cell converts the hydrogen into electrical energy, which in turn drives the engine.

400 hydrogen filling stations Until 2023 in Germany

However, the fuel cell in the car seems like a technology on the fringes. H2-Mobility GmbH, an association of several industrial companies, has set its goal to build hydrogen filling stations as infrastructure in Germany. Even fuel vehicles can be refueled, explains the initiative’s managing director, Frank Freebull.

There should be around 400 hydrogen filling stations in Germany by 2023. At the moment on the general map h2-Mobility found 95 refueling options and only eight planned projects. Thuringians who do not want to fill a void in Erfurt will find the nearest stations in Zwickau or Halle.
