The two comets, C/2025 A4 (Lemmon) and C/2025 R2 (SWAN), are about to make their closest approach to Earth and you can watch the event live online.
Astronomer Gianluca Massi and his Virtual Telescope Project will host a special live broadcast on October 20 starting at 1:30 PM EDT (1730 GMT) to watch both comets pass close to Earth, putting them in a good position for observation.

But the C/2025 R2 SWAN is quickly joining the show and we’re ready to wow everyone

A rare encounter with a double comet
Having two visible comets in the sky at almost the same time is a rare cosmic treat. During the event, Comet Lemmon (C/2025 A6) will pass within about 56 million miles (90 million km) of Earth, while Comet Swan (C/2025 R2) will fly closer, about 24 million miles (39 million km). The brightness is expected to reach its peak between October 20 and 21.
Comet C/2025 A6 (Lemon) was discovered in January 2025, and has been steadily brightening as it flies through Earth’s interior. Solar system. Lemon can be seen with binoculars or small telescopes in the western evening sky after sunset, and slowly climbs higher each night as it moves north.
Comet C/2025 R2 (SWAN) was discovered in September 2025 by the US space agency Solar and heliospheric observatorySWAN tool. It is best viewed in the dawn sky, when the comet appears low on the eastern horizon as it continues its journey away from Earth. The sun.
