3D printer manufacturer ValCUN It has been selected for funding by the European Innovation Council (EIC). The financing consists of a grant of €2.5 million and an option to obtain up to €5 million in additional equity investments. The funds will be used to further develop ValCUN’s MMD (molten metal deposition) technology.
The financing consists of a grant of €2.5 million and an option of up to €5 million in additional equity financing. The funds will be used to further develop ValCUN’s patented molten metal deposition (MMD) technology.
MMD is a one-step metal deposition process based on the use of commercially available metal wires. This promises user-friendly operation and fast implementation, enabling cost reductions of 75% to more than 90% compared to other metal AM technologies. Thus MMD paves the way for industrial chain production. This technology is sustainable – thanks to energy efficiency, minimal waste, and the absence of toxic chemicals or powders. Additionally, MMD allows for excellent part finish time due to low post-processing effort (no debonding, sintering, powder removal or HIP).
ValCUN recently announced the launch of the Minerva printer and Minerva printhead, both based on MMD technology and designed specifically for aluminium. The product will be unveiled at the FormNext trade show this week in Frankfurt am Main. Top Belgian research center Sirris has already ordered its first Minerva printer.
Jonas Galli, CEO of ValCUN, expressed his delight at the EIC funding: “We are grateful to the EIC for selecting ValCUN for this prestigious and highly competitive programme. We are committed to enabling sustainable, safe and cost-effective solutions for metal fabrication and are pleased that the EIC has recognized the potential of MMD technology to achieve Our Vision With this funding, we want to push the boundaries of what is possible in the world of advanced manufacturing.
ValCUN will present its MMD-based solutions at FormNext in Hall 12.0, Booth E32. The EIC financing represents an important milestone for the company to strengthen its position as a leader in metal additive manufacturing and accelerate the industrial application of its technologies.
