User builds his gaming PC and unknowingly damages his graphics card because he makes a stupid mistake 3 times

A gamer wanted to put together his new gaming PC. But he wasn’t paying attention and just randomly connected the cables. Now he has to buy his expensive graphics card again.

Our cover photo is an iconic one.

What is the problem? The user connected the processor power cable to the graphics card and then tried to turn on the computer several times. According to a friend, he might have tried plugging in the cable three times and turning on the computer three times.

And this mistake really shouldn’t happen to him. Because power supply manufacturers are now labeling all cables. The processor cable says “CPU” and the graphics card cable says “PCIe”.

Many users also explain this on reddit: He should have just opened his eyes, because the system is really safe – unless you use brute force, because that would ruin everything.

(Almost) a foolproof system designed to protect against critical errors

The system is usually really foolproof and anyone nowadays can hook up a gaming system at home without much experience. Since all plugs are marked, all cables and steps are explained in detail in the motherboard and power supply manual.

Moreover, the plugs are shaped in such a way that they only fit in a specific location. Even if you have little experience, you can quickly see which parts go where and avoid mistakes.

Why did the error occur anyway? The player may have used force to push the cable into the graphics card until it is finally installed. This can be recognized by the fact that the graphics card connection is severely bent and sometimes broken.

Transformers are not toys

Without a power supply unit (or PSU in English) the computer will not start. Because all components of the system are powered by the power supply unit. However, if you do not follow the rules and lay the cables in the correct holes, you can quickly risk an apartment fire. This was noticed by a gamer who bought a new modular power supply.

To prevent the biggest risks, all major manufacturers rely on valves. But every protection can be bypassed in some way. And if you try too hard to connect the cables it doesn’t belong. So, in a best-case scenario, double and triple check before you not only destroy components, but even end up risking an apartment fire.
