Some of Twitter’s remaining employees have reportedly started bringing their own toilet paper into the office as Elon Musk does Comprehensive procedures to reduce costs in the company.

Musk’s scramble to save money included a move this month to abruptly fire the cleaners who worked at the company’s San Francisco headquarters. The cuts came after the cleaners went on strike for more wages.

On Christmas Eve, Musk tweeted that Twitter was still working “even after I unplugged one of my most sensitive server racks.” The site experienced widespread outages on Thursday, though the exact reason remains unclear.

The report said Twitter Missed rent payments in its San Francisco offices and stopped paying rent entirely on its Seattle building, where it now faces evictions. The company also fired cleaners and some security staff at one of its New York buildings.

In addition, the Musk-led company has reportedly missed or delayed payments to some vendors, including accounting firm KPMG and interest provider Carrot. Twitter’s new leaders are said to aim to renegotiate some agreements to cut costs.

According to the New York Times, Musk has suspended some Twitter employees for his erratic and businesslike leadership style. Twitter’s CEO directed his subordinates to identify the employees responsible for leaking details about the company’s operations to the press.

In all, Musk is said to be trying to cut $500 million in non-labor expenses from Twitter’s budget, according to the outlet.

The billionaire has been open about Twitter’s financial woes since he bought the company for $44 billion in late October. Earlier this month, Musk said the various cuts he’s made are necessary to avoid a $3 billion budget shortfall.

“This is why I’ve spent the last five weeks cutting costs like crazy,” Musk said. During the Twitter Spaces event last week. “This company is like, basically, you’re in an airplane that’s going toward the ground at high speed with the engines on fire and the controls not working.”
