TUI Travel Group is accelerating the development of artificial intelligence in travel planning. A “Digital Hub” opened in Porto on Monday, where 150 technology experts are working to further develop the Tui app and push forward the integration of AI technologies.
“The introduction and quality of new digital products and services are key to transforming ourselves into a global digital travel and entertainment platform company,” CEO Sebastian Eppel said at the opening ceremony.
The technical team in Portugal will work on the company’s mobile application and payment systems, implementing AI-based technologies across all platforms. Digital Hub Porto is part of a network of sites that offer tech talent the opportunity to work on the future of tourism. TUI has already established centers in Poland and India. 2,400 “technicians” are already working at TUI today.
An ambitious technology roadmap
The center aims to provide new digital products and services to TUI customers. TUI plans to hire more staff in Porto in the coming months. An additional 50 technology experts are scheduled to be recruited by the end of 2024. The tourism company has an ambitious technology roadmap to unify its platforms, increase the use of artificial intelligence technologies and develop new digital products for clients.
The TUI Group’s digital strategy also includes blockchain-based solutions that aim to help manage the hotel portfolio more efficiently and enable secure management of customer identity.
