Triple H comments on Damian Priest's wrongful dismissal at WWE Money in the Bank

While Damian Priest was shown holding the WWE World Heavyweight Championship in his hand after Money in the Bank, he was also featured in viral videos highlighting a mistake he made in the ring. The mistake in question occurred when Seth Rollins dropped Priest with a Falcon Arrow, which Priest was supposed to kick. However, as the referee's hand approached the three-count, Priest's shoulder remained firmly on the mat. However, the referee ruled that Priest had kicked out of the pinfall attempt. In Money in the Bank Press ConferenceWWE Chief Content Officer Paul “Triple H” Levesque addressed the confusing situation.

“People make mistakes in the ring, things happen. That’s the reality,” Levesque said. “It’s funny, to me, now that I look at it, if I was involved in this as a talent, I wouldn’t care how good the rest of it was, that’s all I would think about. To me, it’s a shame that people are just talking about this, and they’re just going to bash Damian Priest, even though he had a great performance tonight. But a bunch of people are going to attack that, criticize him, and comment on it.”

While he recognizes that the negative aspects of a match can sometimes outweigh the positive, Levesque wishes he could turn off Priest’s phone to give him the space and time to reflect on all the highlights of his WWE World Heavyweight Championship reign. “He’s risen to a level where when you see him now as a performer, I feel like I’m watching a champion come out,” Levesque said. “I feel like I’m watching a top guy.”

Despite the questions surrounding whether or not Priest was fired, Levesque maintains that the referee’s decision still stands, and Priest remains the WWE World Heavyweight Champion. Looking ahead, Priest now turns his attention to WWE SummerSlam, where he is scheduled to defend his title against the 2024 King of the Ring, GUNTHER.
