It's been about 10 months since I upgraded to the iPhone 15 last year.
I've evolved so much that it's endless, but this time I'm going to give a long-term review of what I feel are “very good points”, “good points that I didn't consider important”, and “points that weren't very important” and I'd like to talk to you.
◎Very good points
・It's okay to take pictures randomly.
– Significantly reduce crashes in dark scenes.
・Large capacity, no need for mobile phone battery◯ I didn't think it was important, but it was a good point.
・Unify cables and share battery between devices△It wasn't like that.
・The file size is huge.☆Bonus (I'm happy because my hobby is mountain climbing)
・SOS function using satellite
It's okay to take pictures properly.
What makes me particularly happy about upgrading to the iPhone 15 is thatCamera performance has been significantly improved. What did you do.
There are still a lot of things that can't compare to dedicated cameras like SLRs, but I feel it's more than adequate for taking landscape shots and such.
Especially for outdoor hobbies, newly installedHigh resolution mode 48 million pixelsVery active.
Even when zoomed in almost twice, the image quality remains the same as that taken with the iPhone 14 (12 million pixels), so even if you are not satisfied with the composition of the photo taken from a location where you cannot move freely, you can still use it later, and it is now easy to cut out unnecessary parts and edit them well.
Significantly reduce crashes in dark scenes.
The compact digital cameras and SLRs I use are prone to camera shake when shooting in dark places, so having a tripod to secure the camera is essential.
On the other hand, the iPhone 15 features a very bright lens and a powerful image stabilization system, so you can take handheld photos without shaking even in dark scenes. Additionally, if you use the Night Mode feature introduced in the iPhone 11, you can also take shots of night scenes without blur.
You can take beautiful photos with less noise without having to carry a heavy and bulky tripod.Great for mountain climbing or travel where you want to minimize your luggage as much as possible. He is.
Large capacity, no need for mobile phone battery
Thanks to the significant improvement in battery life,The mobile phone battery that was indispensable when going out is no longer necessary. This is also a big point.
I used to worry about the battery level in the evening, but since switching to the iPhone 15, I can still get about 50% of it even after carrying it around all day.
I carry a portable battery with me when I go into an environment where I can't charge from a power source, such as mountain climbing or camping, and the 10,000mAh was enough for 2 nights and 3 days.
Also, even though it's been about 10 months since purchase, the “Maximum Battery Capacity” that can be checked from “Settings” remains at 100%, the same as at the time of purchase. I don't feel the battery draining any faster either.
Unify cables and share batteries between devices.
I’ve always been an iPhone user, so I have a lot of Lightning cables. For that reason, I didn’t think much of the iPhone 15 switching to USB-C, but when I actually started using it, the ability to share a charging cable with my MacBook, mobile Wi-Fi, etc. was more convenient than I imagined.
Moreover,You can also share the battery from iPhone 15 to AirPods Pro 2, Apple Watch, etc. Therefore, you no longer need a portable battery. As long as you have a cable, you can usually survive a sudden battery drain.
Huge file size
Higher pixel resolution cameras, as we mentioned earlier, weren't always a good thing.
While photos captured with 48 million pixels have the advantage of maintaining high image quality even when cropped,The file size becomes too large. There is also a drawback. This will take up space on your iPhone's storage, and it will also take some time to transfer the data to the cloud or external storage.
Also, there is no problem editing photos on the iPhone 15, but editing and exporting on a low-spec computer is very slow.
However, it is also possible to shoot at 24MP with one touch, so I only shoot at 48MP when it really matters.
SOS function using satellite
While I was writing this article, I read a news that the “Satellite-Based SOS Function” is now available in Japan as well.
Even in places where mobile phone signals cannot reach, it is now possible to send SOS messages and location information using satellites as long as the skies are open.It seems she has.
It's a feature I wouldn't want to use if possible, but for someone like me who enjoys mountain climbing and the outdoors, it's a really nice update.
The service is available for all iPhone 14 and iPhone 15 models running the latest iOS 17.6. It will likely be included in the iPhone 16 series that will be released this fall. If you love outdoor activities like mountain climbing, that alone might be a reason to upgrade to the latest iPhone.
