The world’s longest suspension bridge completed with Korean technology l KBS WORLD

A beautiful suspension bridge appears over the Dardanelles between Europe and Asia in Turkey.

It is the 1915 Çanakkale Bridge which is 3,563 meters long. This makes it the longest suspension bridge in the world.

Crossing takes over an hour by boat. The bridge will significantly reduce travel time.

Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan said the same distance could now be covered in six minutes across the 1915 Çanakkale Bridge.

It is known that the construction of a suspension bridge is difficult. The 1915 Çanakkale Bridge was completed from design to construction using South Korean technology.

Woo Young-jin, director of DL E&C, said the peerless suspension bridge construction technology was demonstrated. In the External Public Private Partnership Project, the financing, design and construction work was completed flawlessly and successfully.

The main tower is the tallest in the world, and the distance between the main towers is the longest with 2023 meters. This exceeding a distance of two kilometers is considered the technical limit.

Taking into account the frequent strong winds in the strait, the bridge can withstand wind speeds of up to 91 meters per second.

17,000 workers were employed during the four-year construction period. Enough concrete was used to build 2,300 apartments and enough steel sheets to build 150 planes.

The Turkish government expects the bridge to save more than 400 million euros annually.

Sezgin Küçükbekir of the state-owned Highway Corporation said that the main purpose of this project is to connect the main trade routes, shorten the route and save time.

The Korean builders involved in the project, along with Turkish companies, will be responsible for the upkeep and maintenance of the bridge as well as its operation for the next twelve years.
