Yesterday’s summary, between Gustavo’s diploma and the debut of surfing
In the early hours from Saturday to Sunday and throughout the day, many Portuguese athletes participated. The duo of Pedro Fraga and Afonso Costa failed in the double skeet semi-final, in rowing, by just three hundred, while Gustavo Ribeiro was in his first Olympic final on a skateboard and reached eighth, earning him an Olympic diploma.
In surfing, in the sport’s Olympic debut on the women’s side, Teresa Bonfalot and Yolanda Hopkins secured their place in the Round of 16, with the former managing to qualify directly and the latter having to retake it. Carolina João ranks 37th overall in the Laser Radial Championship after two races, Shao Jiani was eliminated in the second round of table tennis, João Sousa fell in the first match of the Singles Tournament and Francisco Santos, despite breaking his own personal record, was unable to Qualification for the 100m backstroke final.
Finally, Filipa Martins did well in all-around artistic gymnastics, primarily in parallels, but she did not survive a crossbar error and was unable to qualify for the final. Joanna Ramos, in judo, did not get past the first round.
