In cooperation with OTH Amberg-Weiden and Regensburg, the Schwandorf district is building a Technology Transfer Center (TTZ) for the circular economy and sustainability not far from the A93 Schwandorf Mitte intersection. With Thomas Niehoff, the OTHs now found a leader for the TTZ.
The Münsterland native who lives in Lower Bavaria has a PhD in mechanical engineering and has worked in the field of application technology for many years. His first appointment took him to District Manager Thomas Ebeling. The Schwandorf District Director was happy that such an important position for the district could be filled so quickly with an experienced researcher.
Close exchange with companies
Niehoff stressed how much he admired this project. He can't wait to take the first steps of implementation. “Close exchange with regional companies and key players is extremely important,” the 59-year-old said. His diary is already full of meeting dates, which the mechanical engineer sees as a positive sign. “This demonstrates the great interest of companies in the close integration of science and business.”
The Free State grants approximately seven million euros
As part of its high-tech offensive, the Free State of Bavaria is supporting the project with seed funding of around €6.9 million. Schwandorfer TTZ will offer application-oriented projects, joint research activities and accompanying study programmes, particularly in the field of additional training for employees in companies. It supports startups and provides space for university staff.
