Microsoft is currently working on new snap layouts using AI technology. The AI tool should offer smart suggestions for arranging program windows in Windows 11. If a leak occurs, the Smart Snap app should be shown.
Windows 11 has a new optional window manager called Snap Assist. Pressing the Windows + Z key combination or hovering over the maximize window button brings up six different options for arranging open application windows on the screen. Up to four windows can be displayed in parallel on each screen. Now one AI-based Snap Assist in the event of a leak appeared, which expands the previous layout options.
Thanks to the AI tool: restore the position of the last opened window
In order to make it easier for users to manage windows, the AI tool of the future should – on demand – make suggestions as to which applications can be distributed on the screen and how. For this purpose, recently opened applications and the screen position in which these programs were opened are saved. This mode can then be restored by clicking on Snap Assist. In addition, the internally called Smart Snap AI tool makes predictive recommendations on how to rank open programs.
It’s still not clear if AI-based snap layouts will find their way to Windows 11. Another innovation in Microsoft’s operating system has to do with File Explorer. Microsoft 365 will integrate directly into Explorer based on WinUI 3. You may not have to look in the email inbox you sent a Word document to, for example, but you can find out by right-clicking on the file. For a Microsoft 365 subscription They can then, for example, work together directly on a Word document.

- For this purpose, recently opened applications and the screen position in which these programs were opened are saved. With a single click on the app’s zoom button, you can then choose to restore the old position.
