Actor Ian Gilder, best known for his role as Kevan Lannister on HBO's Game of Thrones, has died at the age of 74.
Fellow actor and Gilder's husband, Ben Daniels, shared the news of his death in a video Instagram share Tuesday. “With great sadness and a heavy heart broken into a million pieces, I leave this post,” he wrote alongside a photo of the couple.
Gilder died Monday after being diagnosed with bile duct cancer in December, Daniels said. Also called cholangiocarcinoma, it is a rare disease in which cancer cells form in the ducts or tubes that connect the liver, gallbladder, and small intestine, depending on the case. National Cancer Institute.
Gilder's representative, Daniel Alpert, confirmed his death to USA TODAY in an email on Wednesday. Albert said: “Ian was a lovely man and a fine actor and will be greatly missed by his colleagues and all those who loved him.”
In his article Daniels He wrote that he “stopped all work to make it a career but neither of us had any idea it would all be so fast.” The photo shows the two smiling in a selfie in front of a Christmas tree, and Daniels later wrote that the photo was taken after Gilder was released from the hospital to celebrate the holidays.

“He was my absolute rock and we were partners for over 30 years,” Daniels wrote. The “The Exorcist” actor described Gilder as “the kindest, most generous, kindhearted, loving human being” as well as a “wonderful actor.”
He concluded: “Everyone who worked with him was touched by his heart and light. Frankly, I do not know what I would do without him by my side.”

Gilder's television work has also included appearances in “Torchwood” as Mr. Decker, “Doctor Who” as Zellin and the voice of the Remnant and “EastEnders” as Dr. Adam Gorman. He also starred in the drama “Pope Joan” in 2009 as IU.
On stage, the British actor has performed in London's West End and Shakespeare's Globe Theatre.
