The café in Hanover’s Old Town is something of an institution. So it came as a shock to many when the operator gave it up. But now there is good news for Cafe Conrad fans.
One of the recent reviews Cafe Conrad received on Google a few months ago says: “Great restaurant, very friendly staff, absolutely delicious cakes and coffee”. It has been closed since May this year. He continues, “We were also very sad when we heard that our favorite coffee shop was closing its doors. It was an amazing time.”
This time is not over yet. Because Conrad Café has been open again since September 7, the Hannoversche Allgemeine Zeitung (HAZ) reports. It now has new owners, acquired by Anna Schotti and Kevin Apolinario. The two had been running the Alt Hanovera Irish Pub for two years, which is directly across from the café. The reopening of the café has been somewhat delayed due to various water damages, and was actually scheduled for August.
Conrad’s new opening hours
According to HAZ, Conrad’s Café will not be open every day in the future. Monday and Tuesday are rest days. Other than that, a lot remains the same: some staff remain, home-baked cakes and a good breakfast are still served, and the name of the restaurant remains the same.
Dietmar Engel, the former owner of Café Conrad, reported himself in May for tax evasion. He told t-online at the time that he had not reported a portion of his sales to the tax office for years. According to his own statements, he regularly converted ten percent. Engel ran the café for nearly 20 years. Body and soul, as shown (not only) in the review.
