Munich. BMW M Driving Experience, the training center where customers can develop their driving skills individually, has been offering customers a new feature since September: BMW M Mixed Reality.
Drivers and their car are immersed in a virtual world with the help of a mixed reality headset. They can master challenges at high speeds, like in a racing game. Integrated gaming elements, such as avoiding obstacles, collecting virtual “coins”, etc., enhance the immersive experience in which the real and virtual worlds are completely integrated.
The BMW Group was already able to present the technology developed by engineers at BMW M GmbH together with Epic Games in the new BMW M2 at the Web Summit in Lisbon in November 2022. The system takes into account all axes of movement and rotation of the vehicle. The car itself becomes a “controller” and the driver becomes a “player”.
Motivated by the very positive international response, BMW M GmbH has also decided to use the technology in other models of the BMW M product range. “This new feeling of dynamically experiencing a virtual environment in a real car is unique and is seen as a game-changer. It was It makes sense for us to adapt the technology to the BMW M4 and make it tangible for our customers in the form of a new experience.
