With the ROG Flow Z13, Asus launched an exciting convertible with a dedicated graphics card last year. The GPU in particular will also see its biggest update in the 2023 model year, and in addition to the regular model (with the well-known housing design), a special edition will also be offered in collaboration with German fashion brand Acronym. We’ve already been able to put this model to a thorough test and with its unique design, the ROG Flow Z13 ACRNM is a very interesting convertible that’s also very good.
In addition to the special design of the ACRNM version, the GPU is also exciting, because the new RTX 4070 laptop uses a 65W version of the RTX 4070. Of course, it doesn’t sound like much when you see gaming laptops with TGP specifications of 130W and more, but As we discovered in our testing of the new mobile GPUs, the new mobile GPUs require RTX 4060/4070 laptops to play. At a maximum of 100-110 watts, higher values are only achieved in synthetic full-load scenarios such as FurMark, which is practically insignificant. The 65W version of the RTX 4070 laptop is about 20% behind the maxed out RTX 4070 laptop and is also behind the faster RTX 4060 laptop, but given the lower consumption, these aren’t bad results. In addition, the performance is still enough for the latest games at QHD resolution. The 65W version of the RTX 4060 laptop in the regular Flow Z13 (also currently under review) is about 20% slower.
However, this also brings us to a point of criticism, because there is no technical reason why the regular Flow Z13 should be “only” available with the RTX 4060 laptop and not the 4070 as well. However, both versions get a new 13.4-inch display that now has a higher resolution ( 2560 x 1600 pixels, 16:10) and also provides a higher frequency of 165 Hz. With extremely fast response times, the Flow Z13 cuts a very good digit when gaming and if you need more GPU performance at home, Asus offers an expensive XG Mobile eGPU with its RTX 4090 (150W TGP) laptop for €2,500.
In our testing, we were only able to identify two real weaknesses, namely the loudspeakers and the relatively short battery life. Fast components and a high-resolution screen can be noted here. Another thing we’ve noticed with other ROG mobile devices is the use of an external display. The connection is always made via the dedicated graphics card, even if it doesn’t need the performance at all. In this case, the power consumption for simple tasks is often higher than necessary.
Overall, the ROG Flow Z13 remains completely unique with its powerful hardware, which is further enhanced by the ACRNM Special Edition. All other details about the new ROG Flow Z13 ACRNM with RTX 4070 laptop are available in our detailed test report, and the regular ROG Flow Z13 with RTX 4060 laptop test will be published soon.
