The Agonist – zu interview “Days Before the World Cry” • metal.de

Riser released his EP “Days Before the World Cry” in October. This strong release was reason enough for us to beat the band, who were kind enough to answer our questions via email.

Congratulations on your new EP, which in my opinion is one of your strongest to date. Why did you choose an EP instead of an album?

I guess we just got lazy haha. But seriously, I felt it was right to end the chapter after five songs. We knew the songs were powerful and we wanted everyone to get the attention they deserved. When you release an album, some songs have to take a back seat, and that’s inevitable.

Is there a concept behind the five songs?

Yes really. The main theme revolves around the character’s journey through the afterlife. It is a fictional story embellished with my personal beliefs and feelings.

What is the idea behind the videos for “Remnants In Time” and “Feast On The Living”?

Music videos are 100 percent based on texts. I think they are perfectly integrated into the photos. If you read the words after watching the video, it is very easy to understand.

How do you say you evolved as a group? Vicki’s vocals seem to be getting more diverse from album to album.

Thanks! It is a direct result of my hard work over the years. I have always been fascinated by different vocal techniques and try to use the acting style when writing or singing.

As for the music, I think the band’s experience contributes greatly to the sound. After we recorded the song “Orphans”, we knew that this was the direction in which we wanted to move in the future.

The EP sounds more refined than the previous albums, as the songs included many different parts. Was this the intention?

The teamwork comes from the fact that it is a concept EP with only five songs. It was very easy to write the pieces in such a way that they fit together well. On the other hand, if you have a 13-song album, you always tend to include one or two funky songs as well.

The EP was called “agonist core.” Are you saying the statement is true?

I think that’s a nice way to describe it for sure!

Could the EP be a harbinger of a new album and are we likely to find some tracks in it again?

It’s too early to say when the next release will be, but it’s very likely to be an entire album of completely new tracks.

Thanks for your time, and if you have anything to add, now is the time.

Thanks for the interview and review. We can’t wait to tour Germany again anytime soon.
