Saturday's highly anticipated $1.3 billion jackpot drawing was postponed because the Multi-State Lottery Association said one lottery needed additional time to complete security procedures.
The drawing was originally scheduled for 10:59 PM ET.
Powerball rules require every ticket sold nationwide to be scanned and verified by two different computer systems before a drawing is made. According to a press release.
“This is done to ensure that every ticket sold for the Powerball drawing is accounted for and has an equal chance of winning,” the statement read. “Tonight, we have one jurisdiction that needs additional time to complete the advance withdrawal process.”
Customers were asked to hold on to their tickets. Once the pre-draw procedures are complete, the drawing will be conducted under the supervision of “Lottery Security Officers and Independent Auditors.”
There was no indication when the next drawing would be held, although the Powerball drawing is held three times a week: Monday, Wednesday and Saturday.
