Tesla is recalling thousands of its Cybertrucks, the second time the company has issued a recall since shipping the cars to the public. The problem this time appears to stem from the Cybertruck's giant windshield wiper, The Verge first reported.
a notice The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) explained that the recall affects Cybertruck trucks manufactured between November 2023 and June 2024, or approximately 12,000 Cybertruck trucks. It is estimated that about 2% of them suffer from a defect where the wipers stop working due to “electrical overvoltage,” which basically means that one of the wiper components is exposed to higher voltage or more power than it can handle.
Cybertruck owners will have to bring their vehicles in for service and Tesla technicians will replace the windshield wiper motor. In 2021, Elon Musk said the Cybertruck's windshield wiper was one of the components that was “annoying.” [him] Most.”
In April, Tesla previously recalled 3,878 Cyber Trucks — all units it shipped at the time — due to a throttle failure that prevented drivers from braking. The company said it is not aware of any accidents or deaths resulting from either case and will repair the recalled vehicles free of charge.
