Santa Barbara One of the coldest places in the universe is in a laboratory in Santa Barbara, California. The system in the research lab reaches ten millikelvins, just over minus 273 degrees Celsius The Google. The tech stack here runs on quantum computers, and it needs to be cooled as much as possible.
Google researcher Erik Lucero leads the system, pointing to an area next to the computer: “This is where the coolant is flowing.” Lines lead to a metal frame the size of a small room. In the middle is a shelf that looks like an upside down cake. “The coolest point is at the top,” says Lucero. This is where the brain of a quantum computer is located – the processor.
He recently did something interesting. Together with researchers from top American universities such as Harvard, MIT, and Caltech, Lucerio and his team simulated a wormhole.
