A love of home and its special places is the focus of the Technologie Campus Freyung project, where citizen participation is now required. Freyung Scholars ask residents to enter their favorite places and excursion destinations in the Freyung-Grafenau region on an interactive map. According to a press release, the data should later be made openly available so that everyone can get tips about their spare time.
Stephanie Fichtel of Technology Campus Freyung describes the motivation as follows: “Through our field research, we want to invite people to contribute to the image of our home themselves. The data we collect now can be used in many ways, not only for tourists, but also attractive to locals and newcomers.”
We look for information on special natural attractions, buildings with history, restaurants worth visiting, and accommodations that invite you to stay. Technologie Campus Freyung also supports tourism providers in Freyung-Grafenau, Landesgartenschau Freyung 2023 and Bayerischer Wald-Verein eV with its digital home project “WanderKultur” with data taken from residents. “At WanderKultur, we want to combine hiking recommendations with our members’ detailed knowledge of the area and its history and make it available as an app in the area including navigation,” explains Manuela Lange, who implements this digital home project for the association, which is funded by the Bavarian Ministry of Homeland.
The information entered by citizens, says Lang, is “interesting to all people who like to be outside. Above all, the viewpoint of families with children is very interesting.” Behind the project, also called “Mapathon”, the Czech-Bavarian Open Data Network, which is funded by the European Union as part of the Ziel ETZ Freistaat Bayern – Czech Republic Interreg VA and in the region of South Bohemia – Lower Bavaria the Open People Data Network is being built. The project partners – as well as Technologie Campus Freyung, University of South Bohemian and Science and Technology Park South Bohemia – want to show the opportunities and possible applications behind open data, and how everyone can contribute to the development of exciting databases and benefit from these datasets. – pnpMore information about Mapathon and access to the interactive map and background information about the project can be found at www.regionaldata.online.
