Taylor Swift's huge restaurant tip appeared to leak on Wednesday amid her visit to a Sydney restaurant, but it was later revealed that all was not quite as it seemed.
The 34-year-old international star made a surprise low-key visit to Pellegrino 2000 in Surry Hills with Sabrina Carpenter on Tuesday amid her Australian Eras tour.
Her visit stunned locals and fans rushed to the restaurant to catch a glimpse of the Cruel Summer hitmaker as Swiftie mania continues to sweep the country.
Peter Debeler, known as “Apprentice Pete” on The Kyle and Jackie O Show, claimed to have inside knowledge of Taylor's visit after he drove to the venue.
Reports were quick to circulate that Taylor left a huge $300 tip on a $620 bill after Pitt claimed to have a copy of the pop star's meal receipt, and showed a piece of paper live on Sunrise.
However, on the KIIS breakfast, Pete admitted it was all a joke and he never had a copy of the order, with host Jackie 'O' Henderson revealing it was actually a Kmart receipt.
After placing her hands on the piece of paper, Jackie told listeners: “In front of the Kmart receipt is an actual piece of paper with the lies he was going to tell written on it.”
He was also called out by Kylie Sandilands for speculating that Taylor enjoyed Pad Thai, despite it being an Italian restaurant.
Pete's Sunrise interview descended into further chaos when Kyle broke the show's expensive microphone by throwing water at Pete.
The microphone stopped working after Kyle walked over and threw a bucket of water at him while pretending to give inside information about what Taylor ate.
'What happened? What happened to your microphone? asked confused flight attendant Natalie Barr.
“It looks like you're underwater now… Aren't you allowed to talk about this?” asked Matt Shirvington, before saying they hadn't found out what was “actually” on the receipt.
A producer from Sunrise then called into the radio show and Kyle explained that he had decided to throw water on Pete during the live segment.
“This microphone was worth $10,000, so it was worth covering that bill,” the producer said.
“We'll cover that,” Kyle replied.
Kyle later joked that Pete “deserved” to be thrown off TV with a bucket of water for his prank.
Taylor literally stopped traffic on Tuesday when she stepped out for dinner in Sydney at the Pellegrino 2000 in a surprisingly low-key outing.
She is currently enjoying four days of rest and relaxation in the Harbor City after her Eras Tour took Melbourne by storm, with three sold-out days at the iconic MCG.
The star arrived in Sydney on Monday afternoon and is staying at the Crown Presidential Villa at Barangaroo ahead of her three shows at Accor Arena this weekend.
On Tuesday morning, her private plane took to the skies for a flight to Honolulu, amid reports that she was headed there to pick up her boyfriend, NFL star Travis Kelce.
Travis dropped a big hint that he could be heading Down Under on this week's episode of his New Heights podcast, claiming that he'll be “venturing to a real island soon” with the best one being “south” of the US.
He added that next week's podcast is a pre-recorded guest episode in which he does not appear, leading fans to believe he will be joining his girlfriend in Sydney – and possibly traveling with her to Singapore for her shows in the first week of March.
Rumors are also growing that Taylor and Travis will enjoy a romantic holiday together in Queensland during their time Down Under.
Taylor is scheduled to perform four shows in Sydney from Friday, February 23 to Monday, February 26.
