Taste TV: What if you lick the screen to taste different kinds of food? – Multimedia

Imagine: you watch a cooking show on TV and the food being prepared looks so appealing that you want to “taste” the screen. What if you could do it in the future? In Japan, a prototype TV screen with the ability to imitate the flavors of a variety of foods has already been developed.

Created by Homi Miyashita, a professor at Meiji University in Tokyo, the prototype, dubbed “Taste the TV” or “Taste the TV” in Portuguese translation, is a screen and a race. “Carousel” 10 spray cans with different flavors between sweet, salty, bitter or spicy.

Depending on what appears on the screen, the machine combines different sprays to recreate the taste of the food. This mixture is then sprayed onto the screen, which is covered with a layer of plastic for the user to try.

In the declarations To Reuters, Homi Miyashita, considering the context of the COVID-19 epidemic, explains that the technology he has developed can improve the way people interact with the outside world.

“The goal is for people to have the same experience as going to a restaurant on the other side of the world without leaving their homes,” he says. Chefs or cooks also have the opportunity to use the equipment in a distance learning system.

According to the professor who created the prototype last year, the cost of building the business version of TTTV was about $ 875. Its plans include creating a site that gives users the opportunity to download flavors of their choice.

The creator also notes that they are already in talks with companies aimed at using their spray technology to create flavorings such as pizza or chocolate on toasted bread slices.
