The PSB401010H ceramic-based solid-state battery, which began mass production in June last year, has been well received due to its ability to operate in high temperature ranges not possible with current lithium-ion batteries. Through the use and evaluation of samples in a variety of fields, we have received numerous requests for use beyond the 125°C upper temperature limit of the PSB401010H. These requests particularly come from areas such as medical sterilization, semiconductor manufacturing processes and automotive applications, where it is necessary to detect and monitor device environment temperature and other information in high-temperature environments.
In response to these needs, Maxell has developed improved heat resistance to expand the application range of solid-state batteries. By analyzing the degradation mechanisms in solid-state batteries, we found that side effects at the interface between the active material of the anode and the solid electrolyte are the main reason for the degradation of solid-state batteries at high temperatures. Based on this result, Maxell successfully increased the number of cycles nearly five times in repeated charge/discharge cycle tests at 150°C where the discharge voltage drops to 1.0V. *1 Compared with traditional electrode specification products by making significant changes to electrode design, including electrode materials and composition. Using this technology in product development will result in the ability to reduce the frequency of battery replacement resulting from shortened battery life at high temperatures. In addition, the ability to perform measurements and monitoring in high-temperature environments allows for more precise control of the plant, resulting in improved production performance and quality.
In order to solve various societal problems, Maxell develops reliable and high-performance solid-state batteries that can be used in areas where existing batteries cannot be used, focusing on the following four aspects: long life, high temperature resistance, high performance and large capacity . capacity. Maxell will continue to expand its solid-state battery offerings and explore module products that integrate solid-state batteries and their technologies such as wireless power and energy harvesting. The goal is to use our products to help solve social problems.
