SteamOS, Valve’s Arch Linux-based gaming operating system, is receiving a hotfix for its Windows Wine-compatible runtime environment and the internal compatibility tool Proton on which it is based. This makes it possible for the first time to try the beta version of the new version of Resident Evil 4, which will be released on March 24, on the Steam Deck.
The latest build of SteamOS in-house gaming operating system, which is based on Arch Linux, the free KDE Plasma 5.26 desktop environment and Steam client, is followed by a hotfix for Valve’s Proton compatibility tool. This is the first time the Steam Deck has been able to play the Chainsaw demo of the 2005 reboot of the survival horror video game Resident Evil 4.
SteamOS 3.4.6 Beta required
Gamers who want to get an idea of the Resident Evil 4 remake on Steam Deck, which will be released on March 24th for PC, Playstation 4, Playstation 5 as well as Xbox Series X | S, they need SteamOS 3.4.6. This is still a beta version of Valve’s gaming operating system, which also brings ray tracing to a laptop for the first time.

Updating the Steam Deck through the Beta Channel will also make it the latest Steam Deck Beta client update, which brings more innovations, improvements, and bug fixes to portable Linux. The latest Mesa 3D v23.1 graphics stack is also installed under SteamOS.
Resident Evil 4 Remake runs on Linux
