There will be a change in the Premier League in the 2024/25 season. The League introduces semi-automatic stealth technology and revolutionizes the video assistant.
The Premier League announced on Thursday that the clubs had voted unanimously in favor of the change at a shareholders' meeting. This means that the technology can be used in league operations. In the future, the exact location of the ball and players can be determined using a signal in the ball and several cameras.
Increase audience appeal
The new technology aims to place the virtual offside line faster and more accurately, as there is no longer a need to draw it manually. The league hopes that VAR decisions will be made more quickly in the future. The game should also become more attractive to fans who are clearly annoyed by long VAR interruptions.
In the Bundesliga last season, a tackle lasted an average of 85 seconds. Since the introduction of VAR, the time has increased significantly. In the first season the average time was 57 seconds.

Although this technology will be introduced next season, it will not yet be available for the first game of the season. The new system is supposed to be ready for use in the English Premier League after the international break, which begins on October 7.
The innovation is already known
However, this innovation was already present at the 2022 World Cup in Qatar. It has also been used in league operations, in Serie A, and in the Champions League since 2023. Perhaps this will also happen in the Bundesliga in the future.
