The PlayStation 5 cloud gaming preview started yesterday, which Sony announced a few weeks ago. The idea is that you can stream games in 4K on the console, but only if you have an appropriate subscription.
Sony has bigger plans for cloud gaming
But Sony has bigger plans for cloud gaming and high Tom Henderson has also been developing the project, codenamed “Kronos”, for 5 years. Perhaps the goal is 28 data centers around the world, set up in 15 cities.
The testing phase is currently underway, but Sony’s goal is to be online by March 2024, i.e. in the current fiscal year. But the question remains what exactly Sony plans to do, namely whether it will remain a (cloud) PS5 exclusive.
A new portable PlayStation 5 is coming at the end of the year, announced only through Remote Play, but announced ahead of cloud plans. I’d be really surprised if this mobile wasn’t built for the cloud. Let’s see, more details should follow in 2023.
