Sony launches an update to the “Creators App”. Upload directly from your camera to the cloud without going through a computer or smartphone[CP+2024] – PRONEWS: A comprehensive guide that collects all the information about video production

Sony has released an update to its “Creators' App” smartphone app that improves three functions: “Cloud Upload (Live Camera),” “USB Wired Transfer,” and “LUT Import.” Creators App is a smartphone app that lets you easily upload captured videos and still photos to the cloud, and will receive a major feature update exactly one year after its release on February 22, 2023.

It is now possible to upload imaging data directly to the cloud without using a smartphone.

The previous Creators' application was implemented by uploading photos imported to the smartphone to the cloud (Creators Cloud).

Transfer to smartphone and upload to the cloud

With this update, it is now possible to upload shooting data directly from the camera to the cloud without going through the smartphone. To upload to the cloud, initial settings must be made on the Creators app installed on your smartphone. Once you adjust the settings, you will be able to communicate directly between the camera and the cloud, regardless of your mobile device.

Initial settings include “Wi-Fi Settings'', “Camera Recording'', which specifies the Wi-Fi network the camera uses, and “Upload Settings'', which specifies which files to upload, such as still images, clips video or both. It also supports detailed formats such as JPEG, HEIF and RAW for still images and proxy for videos.

It is now possible to upload shooting data directly from the camera to the cloud without using a smartphone.

Once set up, the camera will turn on automatically and data will be uploaded to the cloud when you enter a registered Wi-Fi zone, regardless of your smartphone. Basically, you will be able to roughly select the captured and uploaded results without specifying the files in detail. This feature facilitates temporary backups and file sharing.

You can also make very detailed settings, such as sending only protected items or specifying ratings. The cloud is closer than ever, making it easier to share, view, and edit together.

The direct cloud upload camera is compatible with two models: FX3 and FX30 (compatible with the main unit software update released at the time of announcement). The number of compatible models is scheduled to gradually increase, and the α1, α9 III, α7S III and α7 IV are scheduled to be compatible from March 2024 onwards.

Connection with USB cable enables fast and stable data transfer

USB wired transfer is a function that allows stable file transfer by connecting the camera and smartphone with a USB cable, without worrying about interference when using Wi-Fi or Bluetooth. Compatible devices are all camera models that connect to the Creators App (no software update required on the camera side). Android and iOS USB Type-C smartphones are supported (Lightning and USB 2.0 mini-B smartphones are not supported).

You can easily import LUTs to your camera via the Creators app

With LUT Import, a growing number of video creators have their favorite LUTs, and once they're uploaded to the cloud, they can easily import them into the camera they use to shoot with their smartphone while out and about. It is a function that allows you also When shooting in log mode, the contrast is inevitably low, making it difficult to visualize the final product in your mind in terms of whether you take a good shot or not. So, by sharing the final color grade between members in advance, sharing it briefly on the smartphone, and putting it in the actual camera before shooting, it becomes possible to focus more on the shooting.
