Sonic Frontiers – Number of Players Breaks Serial Records on Steam

with the release of vocal boundaries On Steam, the game broke the record for concurrent players for all Sonic games (via VGC). annoying SteamDB There were 19,181 players online at the same time – a huge increase from the previous peak of 11,937 players sonic mania I arrived about 5 years ago. This indicates that generally positive reviews have led to more interest in the game than other recent titles in the series.

The first reviews were still mixed at the beginning of the year – but by the time of launch, it looks like the team has cleared up the biggest flaws. As the final version is now received more favorably, it has reached a Metacritic rating of 72. The “Very positive” rating on Steam also testifies to this – over 90% of those who rated the game gave it a positive review.

Although Sonic Frontiers got off to a rough start, it seems to have caught on now and many players are enjoying it. While it may not be for everyone, the game is a refreshing change from the series that hits more than it misses.

What is the difference in Sonic Frontiers?

One of the most notable things about Sonic Frontiers is that it represents a noticeable departure from the traditional 3D Sonic game formula. There was a mixed reaction when players were able to try out the new Sonic for the first time, but the final version seems to have fixed most issues and many are enjoying the game. The biggest changes are as follows:

  • The focus is on exploration and discovery rather than just getting from point A to point B as quickly as possible. Each level has many hidden areas and secrets to discover.
  • More open structure – the levels are no longer linear paths from start to finish, but feel like real places to explore at your leisure (within reason). Backtracking is also desirable if you want to complete each level 100%.
  • More sections of the platform that require jumping and precise timing – a big difference from its predecessors, where you often had to hold down a button and Sonic did his job automatically. Those stages aren’t completely gone either, and they still happen with unique mechanics specific to each level, like walking up a wall or using zip lines.

Overall, these changes give Sonic Frontiers a completely different feel to the game compared to other games in the series – something longtime fans may need, but which will eventually lead to a newer experience.
