Vacuum cleaner robots are becoming more and more popular. Little helpers now clean themselves independently and can conquer doorsteps. However, this is the end of the stairs. At least so far. Thanks to a German solution, vacuum cleaner robots will soon be able to climb stairs.
Conquer the stairs thanks to the new lift technology
The technology was developed by a German professor. Mr. Dr. Dieter Haller teaches applied natural sciences and mechatronics at the Munich University of Applied Sciences. It focuses on the teaching areas of computer-aided design, CAE, simulation, and computation.
With his company HA-Consult, Haller has now developed a solution in which vacuuming robots can lie flat enough to fit more under sofas, but at the same time be able to climb steps 20cm high.
During development, Haller encountered a problem that known lifting techniques would increase the robot’s height to the point where it could no longer drive under pieces of furniture. Also systems based on Caterpillar, with. Stairs that you can climb are not suitable for use with vacuum robots. Instead, Haller uses lift systems that have not been used before for this purpose, and thus can enable almost any vacuum cleaner to climb stairs. Spiral staircases can also be overcome using technology.
This technology has already been patented in Germany and can soon be found in the first vacuum robots.
