Siemens' appearance at the CES 2024 trade show in Las Vegas is all about immersive technologies and artificial intelligence for industrial transformation. “For us, industrial transformation is a virtual world – almost indistinguishable from reality – where people work together in real time using artificial intelligence to solve real-world problems,” says Roland Busch, CEO of Siemens.

In collaboration with Sony, the company has developed an immersive engineering system. To achieve this, the Siemens Xcelerator suite of industrial software is integrated with Sony's spatial content creation system.

The system includes, among other things, an XR head-mounted display. This features mini displays and high-quality 4K OLED controllers for intuitive interaction with 3D objects. The partners say the solution enables designers and engineers to create and explore design concepts in an immersive workspace.

One of the early users is: Formula 1 World Champion Red Bull Racing. The racing team uses technology to give its engineers the opportunity to break free from traditional constraints and connect the virtual and real worlds by immersing themselves in industrial transformation. Overall, Siemens' NX Immersive Designer, which combines the group's NX software with Sony technology, is expected to be available during 2024.

Siemens and AWS are deepening the partnership

Siemens is also deepening its partnership with AWS. The goal is to provide companies with a solution to create and scale software applications using GenAI. To do this, Siemens is integrating Amazon Bedrock into its low-code platform Mendix.

Amazon Bedrock meets Mendix

Bedrock is a service that delivers AI models through a single interface, along with necessary security and privacy applications and integrated responsible AI. This includes access to a selection of LLM certificates and other core models – including AI21 Labs, Amazon, Anthropic, Cohere, Meta or Stability AI.

The combination of Bedrock and Mendix allows users to choose the generative AI model that best suits their specific use case, according to the partners. At the same time, developers can quickly and safely integrate the model into their software applications.

Integrate AI via drag and drop

This way, application development becomes easier, faster and more efficient. And thanks to the integration between Mendix and Amazon Bedrock, businesses promise they can now do this with just a few clicks. This makes it possible to create industrial-grade intelligent applications without the need for special programming knowledge – simply on a graphical interface using drag-and-drop commands.

With the help of generative AI, applications can acquire new and powerful functions, for example, to summarize or analyze comprehensive technical or legal documents. Other examples include translations into different languages or image recognition.
