Selecta wants to achieve net zero goal with new technology

Snack vending machine operator Selecta wants to become climate neutral along the entire value chain by 2040. To that end, the company wants to reduce refill trips with new technology.

The basics in brief

  • Specifically, Selecta wants to reduce direct and indirect operational emissions (Scope 1 and 2) to zero by 2030, as mentioned in the Swisscom blog entry.

By 2040, Band 3 – i.e. also the initial and final value chain – should become climate-neutral, a Selecta spokeswoman confirmed to the AWP news agency.

The snack machine operator wants to achieve this with improved supply chains and a sustainable vehicle fleet. The company is already 100 percent dependent on electric and hybrid vehicles.

In addition, Selecta has already equipped some of its machines with new technology, thanks to which it is possible to save more than 880,000 kilometers in the year after installation.

With “Telemetry”, not only can lost products be recorded in real time, but also refill itineraries can be better planned and faults can be recognized instantly. In the summer of 2022, the remaining 10,000 machines in Switzerland will be converted to the new technology.
