Sabrina Carpenter talks about the viral success of 'Espresso'

Sabrina Carpenter likes people to enjoy her “nonsense.”

In an interview with Rolling Stone Posted on Monday, June 17, the pop star, 25, opened up about how her song “Espresso” became a smash hit.

“My mom was like, 'Are you feeling crazy right now?'” Carpenter said of the track in the post. “I just like people to get my sense of humor.”

The song, she told the publication, was inspired by a trip to a crepe restaurant while in France, and it resulted in an insanely catchy chorus, which she remains unapologetic about.

“I decided to put that burden on others,” Carpenter joked.

She also covered how she collaborated with songwriters Steve Jones and Amy Allen, as well as producer Julian Boneta, who inspired the song adaptation.

“That's the only way those stupid, funny, funny lyrics could happen,” Carpenter said of working with her collaborators. “I really focused on the people I love making music with.”

After the success of “Espresso”, which became her first top five hit on the list paintingCarpenter announced on Saturday, June 8 that she is teaming up with Van Leeuwen for – appropriately – espresso-flavored ice cream, her first No. 1 single in the UK, Ireland and Australia, and a No. 100 hit in the UK, Ireland and Australia.

“Available starting June 28!!!!” The “Feather” performer wrote on a photo of her hands holding a closed blue tub of ice cream featuring her image from the cover of the single.

“This is so beautiful,” Carpenter wrote in the second snapshot, referring to her success.

Carpenter will release her sixth studio album Short and sweet On August 23.
