Cologne/Bonn. Many players dream of turning their hobby into a profession. That dream can come true now – in the S-Gaming Cup 1. FC Köln and Sparkasse KölnBonn. In this eSports tournament, FC searches for the third professional for their Virtual Bundesliga (VBL) team in the football simulation game from EA Sports.
The final will take place live on April 27, 2024 in Cologne at the Ovum building of the esports organization SK Gaming. 32 players have already qualified for this in two virtual preliminary rounds. There are still 32 other places available via so-called “wildcards”. Interested parties between the ages of 16 and 26 from the Cologne and Bonn area can register via the landing page www.s-gamingcup.de. The 32 wildcards will be drawn from all registrations on the last day. 64 finalists will have a chance to win the coveted professional contract, completing the squad consisting of coach Peter Schaub and players Tim Katnawatos and Dennis Müller.
Selection criteria: In addition to playing skills, personality is also important
When choosing a new team member, it is not only important that they have the ability to control a controller and approach the game tactically. The person must also fit well into the FC team as a personality. Therefore, the decision will not be made on the last day. At this event, several people that FC would like to get to know better will be selected. But one thing is already certain: the chosen one will be there at the start of the next VBL season. In addition to the possibility of a professional career, there are other prizes: the top eight players on the day can win football tickets, high-quality gaming equipment and vouchers, among other things.
