The precursor to “The Magic Flute” has been performed in only a few productions so far. But with this successful performance of the Singspiel, which premiered in 1790 at the Mozart Festival in Würzburg, we hope that the spell will be broken by further productions: the combination of the sequence of numbers, which by today’s standards resembles music, has emerged. It is an exciting and multifaceted dialogue opera in the Middle East. The combination of influences from Jesuit theater, clown and Masonic ideas with its Enlightenment impetus inspired the five composers to create an encyclopedia of almost all Viennese musical forms. The Munich Court Orchestra, conducted by Rüdiger Luther, and the sound management in the wide and perfect choir part, because the authentic ensemble conveys the conflicts and trials into an exciting, sharp and powerful musical production that gives the event an attractive weight.
