“Gamma Hearts” is the second volume in the new She Hulk series. In terms of graphic, it is somehow reminiscent of the sixties, because that flair is evoked with the slightly angular characters and the many monochromatic backgrounds. At least in terms of the characters, the emotions here definitely come through. And since She-Hulk excels more in the characters’ stories, you don’t have to worry about the fight scenes here either.

And that brings us to the band’s great strength, because this is about Jane’s personal relationships. This brings her closer to Jack and the two of them blended together really well in the first volume. On the other hand, typical humor is shown when Jane represents her clients.

First of all, a certain Doombot should be mentioned here, which lightens things up, but other (entertaining) moments can score here as well. However, in a lot of places it might not really pull off, because everything is predictable in one way or another. There are the obligatory scientists who want powers and who offend not only Jane but Jack as well. You already know how it will end up. Jen is at least allowed to comment sarcastically on this in a scene where she addresses the audience. Where is she right…

As nice as the quieter, character-centered stories are, they could have been a little more so. So the hardcore fans will likely get something out of this band.
