With a sparkling touch, Olli Mostunen offers thought parallels to the piano concertos by Bohuslav Martinoa and Enuguhani Rautavara.
The neighborhood between Bohuslav Martinů and Einojuhani Rautavaara is not immediately apparent. But on the individual points, if you approach them by the subject of inspiration or the free design of their results, there are overlaps. At least that is the basis for the new recording with Olli Mostunen, the Lahti Symphony Orchestra and Dalia Stasievska, who has recorded the Third Piano Concerto by both composers. The fact that Mustonen has a pearly moving stop is nothing new. Here he proves it particularly in “Energico” in Rautavaara’s concerto. In the slow movements of both works, one can feel Mustonen occasionally allowing himself creative liberties, albeit moderately compared to earlier recordings. Lahti Symphony plays with great delicacy, particularly in chamber music passages.
