Crises, wars and disasters are increasingly shaking our world. As Brazil’s rainforests burn, plastic floats in the oceans and cows die in slaughterhouses, climate chaos approaches us with increasing force and speed. However, it is difficult to change our behavior – even though it is becoming increasingly clear that we cannot continue as before.
“We are prisoners of a system from which we promised ourselves freedom and are no longer able to find a way out of it,” wrote political economist Maja Goebel. The sought-after speaker hit the bestseller list two years ago with her first book (“Rethinking Our World”). It was about developing alternatives to a more sustainable life. The present work deals with the question of how we succeed in inducing the necessary changes.
It is not enough to rethink the world. It’s more about getting on the road. There is no shortage of visions for the beginning of tomorrow’s world. What we lack is the conviction that we can implement these ideas. There is also a lack of courage to modify our system structures and confidence to take the first steps.
