Review of the Dresden Philharmonic Children’s Choir – Folk Songs

The Dresden Philharmonic Children’s Choir and Amarchord show the diversity of world folk tunes with simple reverence.

The Dresden Philharmonic Children’s Choir opens this CD with a French Renaissance overture of intimate intensity, a simple solemnity that is immediately affecting. In popular tunes from a wide range of countries, often interspersed with quotes from popular electronic music, the art of vocals and higher order come together in the most beautiful way. Sometimes it is very cheerful as in “Bird Wedding”, sometimes very profound as in “Northern Lights” and sometimes experimental as in “Mirunzarna”. The children’s choir is at its best – and the Amacordler proves that even one of the world’s best a cappella groups can act with almost childlike exuberance. The great pleasure that singers both old and young had with this recording is inevitably passed on to the listener.
