Violinist Shoshan Sinarosyan illuminates two Polish violin pieces from the pre-Chopin era, complemented by an early Mozart symphony.
The history of Polish music before Chopin remains somewhat obscure. For example, Felix Janiewicz was a student of Haydn. Mozart composed the (lost) Andante for him. Janiewicz's Principal Violin Concerto can be heard on this album as well as August Fryderyk Duranowski's Concerto Op. 8. The soloist is Chouchane Siranossian, the Polish {oh!} Orkiestra playing under Martyna Pastuszka. Appreciation for these works is always well deserved. The first movement of the Doranowski Concerto alone shows this: how the strings and solo violin resonate with each other and how the woodwinds sometimes join in and open up pre-Romantic sound worlds, which is a testament to the quality of this music and this recording. The Cyranusian does not do things by halves. Sometimes her playing sounds firm and taut, sometimes tender and delicate. The conclusion is Mozart's early symphony KV 114 – three works in one album, which is a nice side note.
