Benedict Klöckner sees his latest recording with Antonin Dvořák's Cello Concerto as a “Slavic paean” and at the same time an “ode to the sincerity of life”. Some arrangements follow, including the final song “Leave Me Lonely in My Dreams”, which thematically harkens back to the Cello Concerto. With a warm, flexible tone, and thankfully without sentimentality in the second movement, Klöckner forms vocal lines and attacks the key points forcefully. The Roman Chamber Orchestra and Cristian Macellaro are careful and very dynamically variable accompanists. Some lyrical and chamber music passages are particularly noteworthy. Kloeckner has already released a successful album with Danae Dörken. Here they come together to form a duo that is sometimes energetic, sometimes sweetly dancing.
