Review: “Jean Tener – The New Superhero 25: Freedom for Nerad”

With Episode 25, the second part of the last episode is resolved. We look at everything in detail in our spoiler review.

This time the cover shows Jan Jr. and Shekint, who is about to be released (or escape) from his cocoon. As in Episode 24, this is a scene that happened exactly in the episode.

It's all set against a spaceship corridor background with light and shadow and it's quite good. There is no action to be seen here, but it does not always have to be complete.

story

The plot, of course, continues where the previous part left off – how could it be otherwise in two parts. The young guard is arrested and is being examined, which of course raises a connection with space experiments.

At least they managed to escape, and with the help of Shekint, whom they found on the way, they disabled the ship. So far so good and it's good to have Jan and Lara (and Tanja) taking over again. It is also possible to insert a probe into someone's body, indicating its continuation into the future.

Unfortunately, Schkent's new character is somewhat unnecessary. Yes, it helps take out the enemy Zazz and the ship and in general, new aliens are always welcome, but the look is also a bit tacky and, if you really think about it, a bit unnecessary. But so be it.

What is much more dangerous is for the old guard to come and save the young people. Yes, the story is like this, and Lara and her companions have already freed themselves, but there is still a slight feeling that the situation cannot be resolved without the Classic Guard. Don't get me wrong, in general, there's nothing wrong with focusing on the new band in one episode and the old band in the next, as is the case here. This creates a beautiful dynamic. But there could have been a little less of a “you can't get it done without that classic Guard” feel. In contrast, the characters, both big and small, work well together as usual, including the Lyon family.

The collaboration with the feline creatures, which feature heavily here, is compelling. This is another development that one had hoped for earlier and is more convenient than the pressure on the Leonen family in the Zweisstein heirs. Of course, one might wonder why the technology exchange, which will eventually be launched here, was not considered earlier, 30 years after the old series. This may not be bothersome to casual listeners, but to fans of the old band (sic!) such discrepancies are noticeable.

And yes, the solution also comes a little from the (tricky) test tube. It's okay that the trick works here and the space battle is treated fairly briefly – something like that is always difficult to pull off in radio plays anyway. Overall, it's okay, although as Zazz I wondered if 50,000 ships (!) was realistic. In fact, they only had to shoot at one of the fake ships to expose the deception. Sometimes less is more.
