Today, Friday, February 24, 2023, Polyband Medien presents the two “Doctor Who” specials distributed by WVG Medien GmbH “New Year’s Eve with the Daleks” and “The Legend of the Anglerfish” (UK 2021) Released on Blu-ray Disc. Launched in a double set. The two specials tie directly into the ending “Doctor Who – Season 13: Flux” (Great Britain 2021). Released with image encoding in 1080i and AVC and with German DTS-HD Master Audio 5.1 including some extras. Our Chief Review Editor Michael Speer was able to view the Blu-ray in advance and we were able to bring you the detailed review in time for you to start the purchase process. The conclusion of this review states:

From a technical point of view, the tweak is unexpectedly below the standard of the normal chapters. The image is sometimes too soft and milky and also has to struggle with compression imperfections. Unfortunately, the additional material is very straightforward and provides little information worth noting. On the other hand, sonically, there is hardly anything to complain about. The two specials work well on their own, but they only reach the level of good season episodes, and so don’t meet the requirements one might need for a holiday special. Unfortunately, you can tell from the specials that they’ve run out of ideas and that the era of the Thirteenth Doctor and his showrunner is coming to an end. Entertaining, yes – but nothing more. In any case, these two episodes could have fared better in a regular season, and the question also arises as to why these two specials weren’t merged – as had been the case with previous episodes – in the recently released 13th season or bundled with no Especially since it was really short. But on the other hand, fans have proven over the past few years that they are also willing to pay for individual episodes of the series, so why not take advantage of that? Either way, the upcoming special that will mark a turning point in the series promises to be fantastic, and many, including this reviewer, can’t wait to feel and see the power of the Doctor.
