Review: Criminal Law BT I – Property Crimes (Ranger)

Great tool for home work.

Posted April 2024 “Criminal Code BT I – Property Crimes” By Professor Dr. Rudolf Ringer in the 26th edition published by C. H. Beck.

At first glance, the textbook seems a bit bulky and perhaps a bit confusing for legal novices. Anyone looking for a concise overview of property crimes for “last minute” exam preparation will probably not be happy with Ranger’s BT I Criminal Law. It would be helpful if Ranger made a clearer distinction between basic and in-depth information in places. However, the textbook does not claim to teach procrastinating students about property crimes in three days. It is simply a lesson.book There is no text.

Conflicting opinions, case studies, and structural diagrams

The complex topic of property crimes is explained in detail and presented in an understandable way in the work. The fact that Ranger has structured his textbook systematically greatly helps in understanding. The diagrams, which are presented in different versions, are useful for preparing for end-of-term exams.

Case studies and conflicting opinions explanations provide the opportunity to add additional knowledge to your index cards. This earns you a lot of points in the exam, but requires basic knowledge. Criminal Law BT I can also be used to prepare for exams; an area that has become indispensable for me: in my legal duties in criminal law.

It is important here to be able to argue not just superficially, but also deeply. Ringer provides the tools for this by presenting individual criminal offences in detail and incorporating the latest case law and current scientific literature.

The Relevance of Legal Homework in Criminal Law

However, one must always keep in mind that Ringer is also ultimately a legal scholar and has his own opinion on disputes: this can be heard intermittently: (“One wonders what opinion XY is supposed to be talking about.”). You should not let that hold you back; you must also present your own arguments in a research paper and thus come to a (different) conclusion.

Can you just write a BT I criminal law research paper with Rengier? Yes, it helps to analyze and discuss complex issues in a well-founded way. Should you do that? Of course not.

My conclusion: Other, more compact works are more suitable for exam preparation and for short repetition in exam preparation. Criminal Law BT I by Ranger is indispensable for homework. Buying for this purpose is definitely worth it.
