Composer Farzieh Fallah was born in Tehran and now lives in Cologne. After studying engineering, she decided to pursue music as her career. With her pieces she explores sounds down to the small scale and creates new sonic combinations and possibilities. The current CD on Wergo features works in chamber recording: for ensemble and solo violin as well as for guitar duo and string quartet, each producing astonishing things as a hyper-organic instrument with preparations such as strips of tape or wooden clamps. This music is fragile and at the same time incredibly intense. The borderlands between full tone, iridescence, shimmer, noise and echo are explored. Everyone involved in the album, including Rie Watanabe, delves into the articulation details of skillfully designed structures and sonic surfaces in a highly informed, sensitive and precise way.
