With “Time Remembered” Matthias Kirchneret embarks on a fascinating journey through time in 36 piano-laden but dramatically veiled parts of time.
What connects Frescobaldi’s canzona, the Beatles’ “Here Comes The Sun,” Bruckner’s “Erinnerung” and Rachmaninov’s Overture in B minor? Well, all of these pieces – and many more – are among the musical memoirs that pianist Matthias Kirchneret has compiled on a double CD to form a kind of audio autobiography. Bill Evans’ “Time Remembered” is the beginning of Kirschnereit’s 36-part journey through time, which ends sensibly with “As Time Goes By,” during which almost all musical styles and genres are touched upon. But no matter how wonderfully played it is – Kirchneret is an excellent pianist – the question remains about the legitimacy of the group whose dramaturgy can be revealed merely by reading the program booklet.
