Il Gusto Barocco and its founder Jörg Halubek awakened Johann Sigismond Coser's opera “Adonis” from its “Sleeping Beauty” slumber.
There are still surprising finds from the heyday of the Baroque, such as the opera by Johann Sigismund Coser, a native of Bratislava, which was found in the Württemberg State Library. “Adonis,” based on a libretto by Flaminio Parisetti and translated into German by Braunschweiger-Hoff, contains, in addition to song-like solos, plenty of fervent oratory. With an experienced ensemble, Jörg Hallubeck began to rediscover the beautiful and angular work around 1700, which was still deeply indebted to the aesthetics of ancient drama in music and its minor forms. In Koser, the Olympian gods and demigods such as the lusty nymph Daphne are a wild, love-starved group of reckless temperaments who nevertheless always find time to think about their lust and nuisances. With Coser, it's often more about clear rhetoric than Balkantian perfection.
