Under the banner of “Baroque influencer” Dorothy Oberlinger and her band 1700 Alessandro Scarlatti appears as an innovator of Baroque music.
An attractive logo seems essential for registration these days. Thus the new CD of Ensemble 1700 is titled “Alessandro Scarlatti – Baroque Influencer”. The Italian composer, who was born in Sicily in 1660 and died in Naples in 1725, was not only successful in his time with his operas, oratorios and cantatas as well as with symphonies and chamber music, but is also considered an innovator of Baroque music. Music, the modern term is still appropriate. Because Scarlatti influenced not only his present, but also subsequent generations. In order to show his musical versatility, a cross-section of his works is collected here, such as the Concerto No. 9 in A minor for alto recorder, and for 2 violins and bass continuo, in which the flautist Dorothy Oberlinger, also responsible for the overall direction, could shine, or two arias and a cantata in which Bruno relishes De Sa with a floating, weightless, crystal clear soprano and Helena Rasker with a dark, glowing alto.
