The four double bassists Dominik Wagner, Christoph Wimmer, Herbert Mayer and José Trigo embarked on sonorous sonic journeys.
The repertoire is truly wide: Dominik Wagner highlights the possibilities of the double bass between baroque and pop. With his bass colleagues Christoph Wimmer and Herbert Mayer of the Vienna Philharmonic Orchestra and José Trejo of the BR Symphony Orchestra, he has recorded arrangements by Rheinberger, Bruckner, Dvořák, Barber, Mercury and Joy Tempest. As soloist, he ventures into Bach’s entire First Cello Suite as well as the Chaconne from the Second Violin Part. It should come as no surprise that a warm, deep fundamental voice dominates here, but it should come as no surprise how well arranged the Largo movement from Dvořák’s Ninth Works is. The guitarists form a harmonious band, just like in Freddie Mercury’s “Bohemian Rhapsody.” The experimental element emerges from the show and the cast, and the musical scores in particular become wonderfully oscillating sonic journeys.
